I bought my 1985 300D turbo in California and drove it to Washington State.(1200 mi) It did fine but was losing power on hills about half way through the trip. I took it to the Mercedes mechanic who did a tune up, replaced the California style air filter, replaced head gasket and adjusted the valves. Yes, it was a $600. reality check. When I picked it up, it had no power....it took forever to shift to 2nd gear, then forever to shift to 3rd, did fine in 4th gear. The tach was up to approx 3500 rpm when shifting into gears. I have gone to many Mercedes web sites trying to find out what the problem is. My husband is less than happy (and he is a Mopar man) Any ideas?

Hello.
Most likely your mechanic has knocked loose a
vacuum line somewhere. Not uncommon when
working around the head and valve cover.
Just look in the back of the valve cover and
look to see if any of the vacuum lines are
disconnected or broken.
These lines are hard plastic and different
colors.
Also check the overboost line going from the
back of the intake manifold to the alda.
It is not a bad idea to clean the banjo bolts(
one at manifold and one at alda).
and the lines since they can clogg up with
soot and oil.
You should see the bolt on the back of the manifold
just follow it to where it goes to the firewall then to
the alda.
This engine bay looks a little different then yours since there are
more vacuum lines for the increased emissions devices.

This is the intake manifold.
The bolt is on the firewall side it has
a hard plastic line attached to it.
